Can you tell the difference between a sonnet and a stanza? Do you read poetry and want to know more about how poems work? Or would you like to begin reading more contemporary poetry but wonder where to start? If so, consider joining poets Linda France and Anna Woodford in the Poetry Room reading group. At the meetings, poetry will be discussed from the reader’s perspective and we will explore in more depth how poems work on the page and what makes a good collection of poetry. This unique group will be led by two of the North East’s most accomplished poets. Some of the chosen books will also tie into current events happening in the region, allowing readers to discuss the work before seeing the poets read and talk about their work. A wonderful way to get into the North East poetry scene or simply to expand and deepen your reading pleasure.
The group begins in March and Birthday Letters by Ted Hughes is the first choice. This is followed in April by Selected Poems by Sharon Olds, The Soho Leopard by Ruth Padel in May and Hand in Hand: an anthology of love poems edited by Carol Ann Duffy in June.
Each meeting will take place at 6.30pm in Stage 3 at Northern Stage.
